Remove Fears and Phobias Using Hypnotherapy
Irrational fears and phobias are some of the most common work for hypnotherapists. You may have even seen YouTube videos of people quickly getting over fears of snakes, spiders, etc. I commonly see people for various forms of fear of driving. I’ve helped with phobias of balloons, vegetables, parties, public washrooms. One of my more recent (as of this writing, anyway) 5-star reviews was helping someone overcome a fear of moths. It sounds random and unbelievable, but that’s why it’s an irrational fear. And it can occur for almost anyone, for almost anything. But how, and why? And why is hypnotherapy so effective at dealing with it?
The Logic Behind Irrational Fears
One of my favourite things to tell clients is that you aren’t coming to me to be hypnotized. You’re coming to me to be UN-hypnotized. What do I mean by that? Well, let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, I had a friend who went to visit someone at their house for the first time and didn’t know she had a dog. This friend of mine had no problem with dogs before, but this particular dog was not the most well behaved. It ran up to her barking, apparently chased her onto the hood of her car, and just generally freaked her out until her friend came out and reined it in. It wasn’t even a large breed, but for years afterwards, she was scared of dogs.
This is a typical example of a situation where your critical faculties might be bypassed (by fear, in this case) and a trigger comes in because of a negative experience. And just like that, boom: there’s an anxiety-based phobic response to dogs. That’s a textbook example of what I call everyday hypnosis; there’s no swinging pocket watch, but the suggestion gets in just the same. It can happen a lot of ways, from surprise or shock as a kid to an accident on the road making you afraid to drive or many other ways. And we think these things are just parts of us now that can’t be changed, but hey, you sure learned it quickly. Why can’t you unlearn it quickly? And you can … if you make the change where it really matters, where the problem actually is. Your subconscious.
Hypnosis Hits The Undo Button On Phobias
People inquiring about my services often ask me, “Does hypnosis really work?” And it’s sometimes hard not to giggle because, well, yes, it must. Because if it didn’t you wouldn’t have this problem. I have a friend who likes to say that every experience you ever have in your life is trying to reprogram you. And he’s right. And sometimes, in those moments of surprise, fear, stress or something else, a suggestion gets in that normally has no business doing so. Like with my friend and the unfortunate situation with the dog.
Well, just like we remove the suggestions we give our volunteers at the end of a stage hypnosis show, we can remove those phobia triggers that you may have been carrying around for years. It’ll take a few sessions and approaches from a few angles to do thoroughly. It’s not always ten minutes and a snap of the fingers like you see on TV. But it is absolutely doable, and so much easier than you think. You already did it. We’re just going to use the same principles and psychological mechanics to undo it.

I really don’t have much else to say about it; getting rid of phobias honestly is a perfect use of hypnotherapy. Nothing else is quite as well suited for it or more effective. Personally, I always do free consultations by phone, or even by email, so I can make sure my work is a good fit.
